Roof issues are not uncommon for homeowners. This is relatively easy to accept, considering your roof must withstand the outside elements all year.

However, a proper roofing system is designed to handle various weather conditions, including hot summers, cold winters, and snow and ice storms.

Unfortunately, Homeowners often face roofing problems. These issues can be resolved by yourself, but most should be handled by a professional to prevent damage and improper repairs.

Here are some common roofing issues to recognize when to call a professional.

Poor Installation

Poor roof installation can lead to leaks, ventilation issues, and structural damage. To avoid these issues, hire a licensed, insured, and certified professional roofing contractor.

However, Request an estimate on their insurance, certifications, and portfolio. Avoid companies with less than five years’ experience, negative reviews, or expensive portfolios.

Ponding Water

Ponding water on flat roofs is a common issue. It happens when water accumulates on the roof and worsens the roofing material.

However, this issue may be solved if you install flat roofs. In the same way, A frequent roof inspection will also help to find any spots where ponding water may occur.

Moreover, Ponding water can lead to leaks and drooping roofs if ignored. To remove extra water from your drains, build more drain lines or rectify low places.

Hence, hire a professional to resolve these issues.

Poor Ventilation

The purpose of the ventilation on your roof is to prevent hot, humid air from becoming trapped in your attic. Air can flow through your attic through intake and exhaust vents.

So, keep everything dry and the temperature of your roof consistent.

However, it may be tragic to have too few intake or exhaust vents or to have insulation obstructing the vents you do have. This can lead to ice dams, mould growth in the attic, and excessive energy costs.

So, quickly contact a roofing contractor if you see any chances of insufficient ventilation. Also, check out professional roofing services to resolve the issue.”

Wind And Storm Damage

Wind and storm damage can cause roofs to become loose, exposing them to the elements. Proper sealing and secure attachment of roof components, including inspecting flashing and shingles, is crucial.

However, Regular checks for wear and damage after significant storms are also recommended. Extreme weather events like hurricanes or tornadoes require additional protection measures. For example, they seal loose materials, install anchors, and remove trees near the home to reduce debris.

Clogged Gutters

Clogged gutters may not seem like a problem that could ruin your roof. However, with time, they may result in costly damage. Water backlogs in your home and roofing system increase with the length of a clogged gutter.

Moreover, the amount of water that seeps in increases the possibility of leaks or decay that can result in structural damage. So, cleaning your gutters is an essential maintenance task.

Hence, installing screens on your gutters is another way to reduce the quantity of garbage that builds up.

Trees of Shrubbery

Trees and shrubs that hang over the edge of your roof can gradually deteriorate it and cause problems with the shingles or flashing.

Luckily, this is preventable. To prevent abrasion, trim big trees and shrubs so they don’t touch your roof.
